KindCraft hosted a Bundled Bottoms Party at Sunnyside Elementary & cut out cloth diaper templates out of t-shirts for children in Haiti. There were 3-45 minute shifts for this project.
The do this project the volunteers needed:
An old t-shirt or two for cutting the diaper material.
A $6.00 donation for each bundled bottom that was made. This money is used to pay for shipping & to pay the Haitian women to sew the cloth diapers together.
KindCraft bought the elastic & velcro that the diapers needed to be fully completed.
The CDC estimates that “49% of rural Haitians rely on open defecation” (2012) for sanitary needs. Bundled Bottoms helps decrease the rate of open defecation by providing recycled and reusable cloth diapers to families who would otherwise rely on open defecation for their children’s sanitary needs. Bundled Bottoms help prevent diseases that result from open defecation like diarrhea, worms, and hepatitis which can result in death.
Bundled Bottoms is a program run through Many Hands for Haiti, which is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization out of Pella, Iowa. We were so grateful for the opportunity to work with them and everyone loved the opportunity to be able to use what we had to help!
We were also able to collect diapers for Happy Bottoms at this event.
